When I was a child, my mother used to say "Don't roll your eyes so heavily or they'll get stuck." If my mum's correct, I'll have to run around with a permanent eye-roll from now on. Words fail me if I want to describe how annoying I found this book. For the most part, I just wanted to scream: "Oh really? Is that so, Captain Obvious?" I really tried to read it through the lens of adolescence, but I still couldn't get past the silliness of this book. I'm curious if my students will like it, but I thought it utterly horrid. Two stars for it being a debut and creating some suspense towards the showdown, even though that was predictable, too. If I hadn't had to read it for my school's book club, I would have given up after the first half. Now I wasted Christmas break with this aggravating book and its irritating characters. A decision I wholly regret.
I heard nothing but great things about this book and I am glad to have picked it up. It's extraordinary. I haven't read many YA mystery/thrillers because I'm not a big fan of this genre, so I was a bit sceptical about this book but it did not disappoint.My gosh, some parts were so disgusting, gruesome but also fascinating. Some descriptions were so graphic, that I had to put the book down. I'm so weak.I loved the female main character, Audrey Rose. She is such an amazing and inspiring character. She's a badass feminist, half indian, pretty, fierce and simply awesome.And our male main character, Thomas Cresswell. I love that boy so much.I am so excited to pick up the second book!
Vielleicht historisch inkorrekt, dafür aber wundervoll inhaltlich gestaltet. Auch die Bilder und Zeichnungen sind sehr schön und veranschauenlichen die Handlung.Die Geschichte ist super spannend und ich kann immer noch nicht fassen wer Jack the Ripper ist, die Überraschung war für mich riesig.Auch wurde mit Audrey Rose eine starke Hauptperson gefunden und das gefällt mir besonders gut. Sie ekelt sich nicht, sie schneidet! Einfach herrlich, eine starke Frau die ihren eigenen Weg sucht und geht.Thomas ist auch ein sehr spezieller Charakter. Viele halten ihn vielleicht für seltsam mit seiner Art wie eine Maschine zu sein, ich finde ihn super. Er ist mir wirklich sympathisch. Genauso seltsam und unbegabt im Kontakt mit anderen Menschen wie ich. Unter all dem steckt aber trotzdem ein Mensch mit Gefühlen, der nur nicht weiß, wie er damit umgehen soll.Ich hatte nur mit dem Anfang große Schwierigkeiten, ich fand einfach keinen Draht zum Buch. Erst dachte ich es wäre schlecht und hätte es fast aufgegeben, aber dann kam ich in die Handlung rein und konnte nicht mehr aufhören mit lesen. Es ist einfach ein tolles Buch!

Bald landen auch die Opfer von Jack the Ripper im Labor ihres Onkels.Audrey packt die Neugier und sie versucht mehr über die Opfer, und den Täter, herauszufinden. Dabei hilft ihr Thomas, ein Lehrling ihres Onkels.Der Schreibstil der Autorin und die Handlung haben mir richtig gut gefallen und ich war wirklich überrascht, dass es sich hierbei um den Debütroman der Autorin handelt.Es war wirklich spannend, auch wenn ich schnell einen Verdacht hatte. Das hat es aber für mich nicht weniger spannend gemacht.Audrey hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Sie ist ein wirklich starker Charakter mit dem ich mit gut identifizieren konnte. Besonders toll fand ich, dass sie sich zwar sehr für Wissenschaft interessiert hat, aber gleichzeitig auch Spaß an Mode und "damenhafteren" Dingen hat. Sonst scheint es oft so, als müsste man sich für eine "Seite" entscheiden, was mich immer unglaublich nervt.Vom Ende war ich aber leider nicht ganz so begeistert. Die Auflösung von Jacks Motiven war ok, aber die Konfrontation mit ihm hat mir leider überhaupt nicht gefallen, da ich ganz andere Reaktionen erwartet hatte. Mir gab es da tatsächlich zu wenig Emotionen und zu wenig Fragen... Ich hätte da ganz anders reagiert.Insgesamt dennoch ein toller 1. Band, der definitiv Lust auf mehr macht :)
Die Bücher von Kerri Maniscalco habe ich wegen Bookstagram gekauft und um ehrlich zu sein, hat mich auch die Story über Jack the Ripper gereizt. Es spielt zur viktorianischen Zeit und von Frauen wird eigentlich erwartet schön auszusehen und Tee zu trinken. Dieses Leben ist aber nichts für Audrey Rose. Heimlich lernt sie die Anatomie des Todes bei ihren Onkel. Ihre Arbeit an einer Reihe von grausam getöteten Leichen führt dazu, dass Audrey Rose in die Suche nach eines Serienmörder verwickelt wird.Während des Lesens hatte ich viele Vermutungen, doch diese musste ich oft wieder über den Haufen werfen durch die Vielzahl von Twists und neuen Indizien. Ich habe wahrlich mitgefiebert, da ich unbedingt wissen wollte, wer es war und ob ich mit meinen Vermutungen richtig lag.
